The story–suburban boy discovers his neighbor is a vampire–remains the same as the 1985 cult horror classic. But, this film is playfully updated with new twists and has amazingly staged action/suspense sequences throughout.
You’ll probably also recognize Anton from his role as the new Chekov on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise in “Star Trek” (2009).
What did Walter Koenig, age 73, (the original Chekov) think of 19-year-old Anton’s performance? He said, “I didn’t know whether I’d feel envious or intimidated watching somebody else in the role. But when I sat down and began to watch, I appreciated a very good performance in a movie. I was actually quite proud of Anton. I found myself rooting for him. The moments that he had that were funny, I laughed, and the moments that showed other qualities of the character, I thoroughly appreciated and applauded as well.”
