Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Our king-size commitment to breast cancer research began in October of 2007 when we partnered with the Knoxville Chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and dressed Gatlinburg’s largest primate in a gargantuan T-shirt that said “Go Pink!” It was made from 100 yards of 100% cotton jersey fabric to fit his 25-foot neck, 28-foot biceps and 50-foot chest circumference. Each letter was 3 feet high, and the accompanying ribbon was 5 feet tall. That year, we also hosted a reception with Rachel Smith, Miss USA 2007,® who was a celebrity board member and spokesperson for the organization. Now, we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month by affixing pink ribbons onto the costumes of every wax figure in the Museum (including Frankenstein!) and donating a portion of admissions proceeds to the organization.
