Tim Burton’s Hollywood Wax Museum Connection

Hello from Hollywood Joe! Here’s your tasty sip of fresh ground celebrity talk for today.

And our topic is master filmmaker extrordinaire Tim Burton (you know… Batman, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, The Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and many more prolific projects). Well, you can take a look inside his brilliant mind at a special exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) through Oct 31, 2011.

During an interview with Buzzine Arts about the 700-work display, Burton explained how he developed into a creative genius. He said, “Growing up in Burbank (CA), there wasn’t much of a museum culture. I never visited one until I was a teenager (except the Hollywood Wax Museum). I occupied my time going to see monster movies, watching television, drawing, and playing in the local cemetary.”

Well, if the artfully recreated wax stars and full-on Horror Chamber at the Hollywood Wax Museum were even the tiniest part of Burton’s inspiration, we’re thrilled!

Fun fact: Tim Burton did not know Johnny Depp before working with him on Edward Scissorhands. Burton has said of Depp, “It’s one of those rare experiences when you just meet somebody and you connect with them as a person and an artist. With Johnny, it was pretty much immediate.”

The Nightmare before Christmas will be one of my favorite movies of all time. I am a lover of all things a little spooky an strange,” to most”.
