Joseph Encounters Silver Linings Playbook Star Jacki Weaver

Sometimes, just grabbing a bite to eat means you get to meet a big-time film actress! It happened once again to our very own Hollywood Joseph — and this time, he got to meet an Oscar nominee!

I have another fun story for you and it has to do with Australian actress Jacki Weaver. If you don’t recognize her name, you should definitely recognize her face… she’s been in several recent Hollywood blockbusters and was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook (as the mom Dolores), which just came out on DVD release, April 30.Hollywood Joseph meets Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver Even before she started working in the States, she won Australia’s version of the Emmy award for her work in television! Cool, right?

Anyway, after finishing up my evening shift at the Hollywood Wax Museum  I decided to grab a bite to eat with some friends down the street at Cleo. It was the perfect evening for a nice walk before dinner and as I headed down Hollywood Blvd.,  I spotted a well-dressed blonde woman exiting a towncar. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was Jacki Weaver!

She was nice enough to stop and chat for a moment about several of her upcoming projects — and they all sound pretty amazing! She’ll soon be seen in Parkland, a movie about what happened at Dallas Parkland Hospital on the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated; Billy Bob Thornton, Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden, and Paul Giamatti also star. And after that, she’ll be co-starring in the film version of the popular Broadway play Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. She’s a busy lady!

Jacki was just about to meet some friends for dinner herself, so I bid her goodbye — but not before I snapped a quick photo with her! My friends were excited to hear all about my latest celebrity encounter over our dinner. Just another amazing day in Hollywood…

Great story, Joseph! You get to meet the most amazing people on your Hollywood travels. Readers: Have you seen Silver Linings Playbook? What was your favorite scene? Let us know in the comments below.

Hollywood Joseph Chats With Elle Fanning

Our man-on-the-street Joseph has a chance encounter with the “Super 8” star as she takes in the Hollywood sights …

Y’know, it’s not every day that siblings from the same family become famous in Hollywood. I was thinking about that the other day as I finished my shift at my “home away from home” — the box office at the Hollywood Wax Museum, where I get to meet all you fun Museum fans! — and headed towards Hollywood & Highland for a special treat. I confess: Sometimes I skip dinner and go right for dessert … good thing H&H has one of my favorite eateries, Beard Papa’s Sweets Cafe! Have you heard of it? It’s a chain from Japan that sells these amazing cream-filled pastries.

But back to celebrity siblings. We all remember Dakota Fanning from I Am Sam and the Twilight series, right? Did you know she has an equally famous younger sister? Her name is Elle Fanning, and you might recognize her from one of my favorite recent sci-fi flicks, Super 8, as well as the movies The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and We Bought a Zoo. Anyway, just as I was about to enjoy my Beard Papa’s cream puff and some coffee, who do I spot walking into Hollywood & Highland but Elle herself?

Hollywood Joseph meets actress Elle FanningShe couldn’t have been nicer — taking a picture with me and telling me about the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards she’d just attended here in L.A. (she even got to see honoree President Clinton up close!). She also told me to be on the lookout in 2014 for some upcoming projects; one is a sci-fi film called Young Ones, directed by Gwyneth Paltrow’s brother Jake — hey, more famous siblings! The other sounds super cool … it’s a new take on the story of Sleeping Beauty called Maleficent, in which Elle will be co-starring with the one and only Angelina Jolie! WOW! Elle is one busy and talented actress, just like her older sister …

WOW is right, Joseph! Elle is definitely an up-and-coming star here in Tinseltown … so cool that you got to meet her! Readers: Do you remember the first time you saw Elle in a movie? Post about it in the comments below.

Joseph Catches A Glimpse Of Dennis Quaid In Hollywood

Our guest blogger Joseph is used to seeing all manner of celebrities in and around Hollywood… but this time, he caught a glimpse of one who was driving the boulevard!

If you’re anything like me, you sometimes forget that celebrities are real people — doing everyday “real people” things like going to the grocery store or picking up dry cleaning, just like the next guy or gal. Even though I work in the heart of Hollywood and have had my fair share of celeb encounters, I’m still pleasantly surprised when I see a star behind the wheel of a car!

Actor Dennis Quaid drives past Hollywood Joseph in Hollywood, CA.

Case in point … Just the other day, I was meeting and greeting the awesome patrons at the Hollywood Wax Museum when I saw a familiar face — wearing trendy black sunglasses, of course — driving down Hollywood Blvd., right in front of me. That familiar face was none other than actor Dennis Quaid! He was so friendly that he even slowed down when he saw me take my camera out — and he looked right at me! Cool pic, right?

Dennis’s latest movie, At Any Price, is out now, and I want to see it. He stars with Heather Graham and Zac Efron, who recently told, “We didn’t really have a lot of those sort of creature comforts on this movie … [Dennis and I] kind of just hung out a lot together. We hung out in his car a lot, which sounds creepy [laughs]. It was really nice. He’s wise beyond his years and he’s a really great guy.”

Guess Dennis likes spending time in his car! I have to say, it was a pretty nice ride — so I can’t blame him…

That’s a fun sighting, Joseph. And what a great photo you managed to snap! Readers: Have you ever found yourself next to a celebrity while sitting in your car at a stoplight? Post about your sightings in the comments below.

Joseph Catches Sight Of A Seinfeld Star

Our very own Hollywood Joseph spots a TV favorite — Patrick Warburton — on the red carpet at a recent movie premiere!

Puddy on Seinfeld. Joe on Family Guy. The Tick. Jeff on Rules of Engagement. These are some of my favorite characters from TV shows past and present — and they’ve all been played by one person: the fantastic Patrick Warburton. His deep voice is so distinctive … did you know he’s even featured in several theme-park attractions? The guy is everywhere!

Hollywood Joseph spots Patrick Warburton in Hollywood. Some pals and I were recently grabbing a slice of pizza at Grecos New York Pizza — just down the street from the Hollywood Wax Museum — when I spotted a bunch of commotion at the TCL Chinese Theatre across the street. Turns out, it was the premiere for Movie 43… and guess who was walking the red carpet? That’s right: Patrick Warburton!

Known as the photographer among my friends — and not wanting to miss the opportunity — I put down my slice of pepperoni and stepped outside to get a few shots. Patrick looked like he was having lots of fun, meeting and greeting fans and fellow celebrities. I recently read somewhere that Patrick will be seen later this year in the movie A Many Splintered Thing, alongside Luke Wilson and Aubrey Plaza. One of my friends also mentioned hearing about Patrick’s next “Golf for Kids” Celebrity Golf Tournament, taking place in Spring 2014 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California. It’ll be the fourth annual event, which raises money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — a very worthy cause!

A fun celebrity sighting, and all because we were craving some pizza. Never a dull moment in Hollywood, my friends!

Another great story, Joseph! Is there any celebrity you haven’t caught a glimpse of? Readers: Do you golf? Which celebrity would you most want to “hit the links” with? Let us know in the comments below.

Joseph Gets Kissed By A Hollywood Star

Valentine’s Day is here and love is definitely in the Hollywood air! Our very own Hollywood Joseph dishes a funny celeb encounter below!

So for those of you who don’t know Peter Stormare, he’s an actor that you may not Peter Stormare Kisses Hollywood Josephrecognize by name but his face tells it all.  He’s basically been in everything from commercials (remember those hysterical Volkswagen spots a couple years back?) to blockbuster hits like the Oscar-winning Fargo.  OK, OK maybe not everything, but you get my drift.  Anyway, I was out shopping in Hollywood for some last minute Valentine’s Day goodies and got a surprise of a lifetime!  Instead of picking up chocolate and flowers, I walked away with a smooch from Peter Stormare!!!  He’s not really on my list of celeb crushes, but he’s got quite a great sense of humor!  I don’t mind getting a kiss on the cheek from

anyone who can pull off wearing those crazy glasses!  Luckily I snapped my camera just in time — I have proof to tell you and all my friends at The Hollywood Wax Museum what happened!

The Swedish born actor is best known for playing a variety of international characters:  an American in Jurassic Park, a German in The Big Lebowski, an Italian in The Brother’s Grimm, a Frenchman in Chocolat, a Russian in Armageddon and the list goes on and on.  His latest U.S. movie is Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, which stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, released in January.  Might be a good date night movie?!

Joseph Spends The Evening With Oz The Great And Powerful Cast

One of the perks of working in the center of Hollywood is catching the celebrations of a big-time movie premiere! And that’s just what happened when Joseph happened upon the magical premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful — and all its stars!

Hot air balloon at Oz the Great and Powerful premiere, Hollywood, CA.

Joseph couldn’t believe his eyes – a hot air balloon in the middle of Hollywood!

Wow, wow, wow! I had the most amazing night! Just as I was leaving my post at the Hollywood Wax Museum for the evening, I saw the most magical sight — a huge hot air balloon, right in the middle of Hollywood Blvd. That’s definitely not something you see every day … so I walked a bit down the block to check out the commotion.

It was the big, amazing premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful at the El Capitan Theatre! It’s the latest film from director Sam Raimi, and it tells a sort of “prequel” story to L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz — as seen through the eyes of Oscar “Oz” Diggs (James Franco), a small-time magician and con artist in 1900s Kansas who mysteriously finds himself in the enchanted Land of Oz.

Hollywood Joseph spots Michelle Williams on the red carpet in Hollywood, CA.

Michelle Williams speaks to reporters.

Always toting my trusty camera, I decided to stop and take some photos. It was so cool to see how the red-carpet — well, in this case, yellow-carpet! — interviews looked from behind the scenes. I watched as one of the film’s stars, Michelle Williams (she plays Glinda, the Good Witch of the South), spoke to the journalists on hand. She looked beautiful in her sparkly white gown, which matches some of the costumes she wears in the movie.

Joseph spots actress Rachel Weisz at the Oz the Great and Powerful premiere in Hollywood, CA.

Rachel Weisz in her “ruby” red dress.

I also caught a pic of Rachel Weisz — who plays Evanora (the Wicked Witch of the East) — speaking to the cameras. She certainly didn’t look very “evil” in her lovely red dress… which reminded me of Dorothy’s ruby slippers!

Hollywood Joseph spots Joey King in Hollywood, CA.

Actress Joey King greets the press.

Finally, I spied one of the film’s youngest stars — Joey King, who provides the voice of the adorable China Girl, an animated character that Oscar meets on his travels. She looked like she was having lots of fun talking to the reporters!

Working in Hollywood certainly has its perks. Where else could you find a hot air balloon and a “yellow brick road” in the middle of the street?!

You certainly took us “over the rainbow” with this story, Joseph! Readers, it’s your turn: Who’s your favorite Wizard of Oz character, old or new? Post your comments below.

Hollywood Joseph Encounters The Americans

Why has a submarine mysteriously appeared  in the middle of Hollywood?  Our favorite Hollywood Wax Museum employee, Joseph, has some answers!

It’s not every day you see a submarine breaking through cement at Hollywood & Highland center!  YES, you are reading correctly…I couldn’t believe my eyes either!  Turns out this was FX Network’s imaginative way of promoting its much-anticipated series The Americans that premiered last Wednesday.  After checking out the massive replica of a Cold War era Soviet submarine – complete with USSR propaganda and Russian soldiers – I immediately added the show to my DVR recordings.  It’s quite a thriller!!

Submarine At Hollywood & Highland Center to promote The Americans

Set in the 1980’s, Phillip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) appear to be a typical American couple living in Washington DC with their two kids.  In reality, they are both KGB spies!!!  Side note: Do any of you remember the WB hit Felicity starring Keri Russell?  Well let me tell you, she’s a far cry from a sweet and lovable character in “The Americans”!

Joseph With Russian Soldier From The AmericansI had just enough time to walk over during my lunch break from The Hollywood Wax Museum and snap some photos of the scene.  Felt like I was right in the middle of the Cold War – very eery with all those Soviet soldiers marching around the courtyard.  I’d guess the promotion was quite a success – it definitely caught my eye!!

Secrets, spies and lots of action…sounds intriguing, Joseph!  Thanks for the full report! Will you be watching “The Americans” tonight at 10pm on FX Network?

Iron Man 3 Films Near Hollywood Wax Museum

Hollywood Joe gives you a sip of entertainmentDidn’t get enough of Tony Stark and all that jam-packed action in Iron Man 2?  Well he’s back!  Marvel and Walt Disney Studios are releasing Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013.  Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, the upcoming film adds Ben Kingsley to its star-studded cast as the latest villain dubbed The Mandarin.

Iron Man 3 films in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre

Tonight, lots of activity took place from 10 pm to 4 am, just one block away from The Hollywood Wax Museum at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.  Hollywood Boulevard was closed for the filming of “Caged”, which turned out to be a sneaky pseudonym for Iron Man 3.  The movie features the famous Hollywood landmark, that opened its doors in 1927, being blown to pieces during an action sequence.  Of course, the actual explosion will be simulated in the studio.

The scene is set to take place during Christmas time, so Grauman’s Chinese Theatre – soon to be called TCL Chinese Theatre – was adorned with holiday decorations.Iron Man 3 Filming Grauman's Chinese Theatre

Very exciting stuff and so close to top LA attraction  The Hollywood Wax Museum! Glad Hollywood Joe could give you the scoop!

Hollywood Joseph Spots Dame Helen Mirren On The Walk Of Fame

Our one-and-only Joseph spots British royalty right on Hollywood Boulevard!

All of my friends have been raving about the PBS show Downton Abbey – heard of it?  I decided to check it out and see what the big deal was.  Well, I watched the first two seasons in ONE weekend and I am now an official fan of the series!  Very addicting!!

After finishing the last episode, I wanted to chat with the gang about the plot and all the interesting characters.  So sticking with the UK theme, I organized a meal at the famous British pub on Hollywood Boulevard called Pig ‘N Whistle. It’s right down the street from The Hollywood Wax Museum.  The place makes the best UK dishes in the area like bangers and mash, fish ‘n chips and shepherd’s pie…YUM!  On the way over, my friends started texting me that a huge crowd was blocking the pub’s entrance.  Guess it could’ve been anything – this is LA after all – and nothing surprises me now!

Helen Mirren at Walk of Fame Ceremony in front of British publ Pig N WhistleOnce I arrived, I caught a glimpse of a podium and a bunch of photographers.  Low and behold, British superstar Helen Mirren was getting ready to make a speech.  Great timing!  I soon discovered that she was being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (star number 2,488 to be exact).  The Oscar winning actress mentioned she’d always wanted to lie next to Colin Firth (he played King George VI in The King’s Speech) and now she gets to be with him forever because their stars are side by side.  Helen also hopes nobody will spit on her new star – we all burst out laughing when she said that!

The actress received another type of star as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Prince Charles in 2003.  Basically, she’s a female knight!!  She’s starred in tons of movies, such as The Queen, The Debt and most recently Hitchcock as Alma Reville, Alfred Hitchcock’s wife.  Dame Helen Mirren is a London native and has played a queen SIX times!!

My friends and I put our appetites on hold for a bit to watch the ceremony and snap some photos.  Seemed like eating at Pig ‘N Whistle was impossible, so we booked it to another great spot called The Blue Boar Pub on Cahuenga Blvd.  Fish and chips never tasted so good!

Sounds like quite a royal feast Joseph!  Follow more celebrity encounters on Twitter!
