On February 1st, 1887, Hollywood was a patch of undeveloped land filled with fruit trees. How sweet it is that the city turned 125 with a birthday bash hosted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Hollywood Wax Museum.
In the center of the Hollywood & Highland, press, fans, paparazzi, and Hollywood lovers gathered wearing party hats to help Hollywood blow out her candles.
Jimmy Kimmel led the birthday song and thanked Hollywood for making all of his childhood dreams come true. Of course, the cake was nothing short of fabulous, created and presented by celebrity chef Duff Goldman from Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes”. He was also celebrating the opening of his new Hollywood bakery, Charm City Cakes West.
Guest speakers included Councilman Eric Garcetti, of the 13thDistrict of Los Angeles, who said that when the president of Korea visited Los Angeles, the only gift he wanted was the Councilman’s lapel pin of the Hollywood Sign. Tom LaBonge, 4th District Councilman of Los Angeles, shared that The Wizard of Oz is his favorite movie, and said, “Just like Dorothy, I believe there is no place like home.
Thanks to the Hollywood Wax Museum, Elvis was rockin’ round the block, posing for photos with Councilman LaBonge and nearly 500 guests.
With the Hollywood Wax Museum’s 47th birthday just around the corner, Hollywood Joe thinks Audrey Hepburn said it superbly, “The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.”
Happy birthday Hollywood!
